Scholarships

Each semester HBSA awards a various amount of scholarships to its members recognizing them for great efforts put forward in the organization. The following is a list of all of the scholarships we offer and their current recipients. There is a 300 points requirement in order to receive the full amount of each scholarship, and each Scholarship is awarded at banquet, unless otherwise specified below.


Scholastic Achievement Scholarship


In order to be considered for this scholarship, members must turn in their unofficial transcript to the Managing Director at the end of the semester.  The winners are selected based on their academic improvement throughout the semester. Due to the nature of this scholarship, the Scholastic Achievement Scholarship is awarded after banquet. President’s Award


The President’s Award is HBSA’s first scholarship with a substantial award in several years. This is a two-part scholarship, the first part consists of the completion of various requirements such as attendance to key community, corporate, and fundraising events, outlined at the beginning of the semester. The second part consist of a submission of a short video outlining the value members have gotten from HBSA. Community Involvement Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded to the individuals who were able to perform above and beyond other individuals within the chosen community event, usually the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) One walk or the March of Dimes. Please check our weekly newsletters to see when and where these events will be taking place.

Career Fear Challenge


The winners of this scholarship is based on a drawing. In order to enter the drawing members must attend either the Bauer Career Fair or the University of Houston Career Fair, acquire at least 5 business cards from recruiters, and follow up with at least 2 of the recruiters. Top Alumni Mentorship Pair


The winners of this scholarship is based on relationship between Mentor and Mentee. During the semester members have the opportunity of participating in a mentorship program with HBSA alumni, and the member who puts in the most effort to grow that relationship will be awarded the scholarship. Corporate Member of the Semester


Throughout the semester HBSA has Corporate events where our Corporate Partners host workshops for the benefit of HBSA members. The winner of this scholarship is based on points acquired at corporate events. Member acquire corporate points by attending these events and successfully networking with recruiters. Community Member of the Semester


Throughout the semester HBSA hosts interactive community service events where members have the opportunity to give back, volunteer, and make a difference. The winner of this scholarship is based on points acquired at community events by attendance and donations. Please check our weekly newsletters for more information about community events.

Study Knights/Knights Apprentice


A Study Knight is an HBSA member who has received an A for a particularly difficult course and returns to tutor fellow HBSA members taking that course. A Knight Apprentice is a member currently taking and excelling in a particularly difficult course and tutoring fellow HBSA members. These scholarships are awarded to every member that is chosen and continues to be committed to tutor and help others learn. Getting A’s Pays


The winners of this scholarship will be based on a drawing. In order to enter the drawing members must submit any exam grades where they earned an A. Please check our weekly newsletters to see when the application for this scholarship is available.

Competitions


Throughout the semester HBSA hosts an interview, public speaking, business start-up, and case competition. The winners of each competition will receive a scholarship at banquet.  Please check our weekly newsletters to see when the sign-ups for each competition are available.

LinkedIn Scholarship


The LinkedIn scholarship is exclusive to members attending the LinkedIn and Resume workshop. During the workshop members are given a list of criteria for their LinkedIn profile, once members meet the criteria and connect with the Administrative Director they are eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to the member who has successfully grown their network the most throughout the semester. Top Recruiter Award


The returning member who successfully recruits the most new members for HBSA during Rush Week will be awarded a gift card to the establishment of his/her choice at the First General Meeting. Future Leaders Development Mentors


During the Spring Semester members have the opportunity to mentor high school students who have been chosen to be a part of the Future Leaders Development Program. Every mentor will receive a scholarship at banquet for their commitment. Please check our weekly newsletters to see when the application for the mentorship program is available.

Top New/Returning Member of the Semester


This Outstanding Member Award is given to both a new and returning HBSA member that has demonstrated interest in the organization by being active during the semester. The winners are selected based on the amount of points that they accumulate by participating in various HBSA events. The winners receive a scholarship for the upcoming academic semester.

Officer of the Semester


This award is given to one HBSA officer that has demonstrated commitment to the organization by going above and beyond their respective duties. At the end of the semester, the officer board votes on who should be recognized for their hard work, leadership and dedication to HBSA. The winner receives a scholarship for the upcoming academic semester.
